Since the 1990s, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer (now called eFootball) has competed with EA Sports’ FIFA series for dominance in football gaming. While PES gained early fame for its realistic gameplay, FIFA pulled ahead in the 2010s by securing exclusive rights to real teams and players, and utilizing a more advanced game engine. FIFA’s eSports tournaments, like the FIFAe World Cup, became a core part of its success. Now, with significant changes in the landscape, FIFA and Konami are teaming up.
Both Konami and FIFA emphasized that this partnership aims to bring players closer to the sport through special competitions.
